MCAS Yuma

10th February 2015

On Tuesday the 10th February I made a brief visit to MCAS Yuma in Arizona.

With one of the 2 main runways closed due to construction and the Easterly wind meaning Runway 03 was in operation, vantage points from outside the fencewere at a premium. Still there was still some nice hardware flying.

Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 flying the AV8 Harrier usually based at MCAS Cherry Point have been operating out of MCAS Yuma during January and February.

These Harriers, call sign (Mars) as well as the F35s based at Yuma with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 call sign (combat11 flight) used runway 03L. These all kept fairly low on departure.

If you have your wits about you and are prepared to move between locations regularly , it is also possible to catch rotary traffic arriving and departing the cross runway 08/26.

The Uh1 Huey ( callsign Rescue) and v22 ( callsign Oasis) can be seen departing runway 08.
